Klimt 1918 "Undressed Momento"

::: Review taken from Directory of Dirge, England, October 2003 :::

This is most definitely an involved and beautiful record. These Italians dwell in the realms of modern avant-garde metal along side Anathema, Opeth and the like. "Undressed Momento" embraces dry and heartfelt vocals which wash over the often bleak and sparse instrumental backing, but unlike many of their peers, Klimt 1918 are not afraid to call back to their heritage and include metal sections (full on double kick drumming and walls of heavily distorted guitars) which only add to the majesty and depth of the songs. I feel that the piercing and snappy drums could benefit with being toned down and a warmer and more organic sound would suit the music better, but this is a minor gripe on my part.
Often this is an intimate listen which requires the listeners full attention and each listen draws you further into the clever melancholia that is "Undressed Momento".
Overall, an excellent mix of atmosphere, power and emotion.
