For those of you looking for something
metallic, please leave now, because this is more likely to get woodworm
than it is rust. It was a tough decision whether this was going to be
featured at all because it's literally dripping in 80's jangly guitar
based pop music. Some of it's good: The Adventures, hints of U2 etc... and
some of it's bad: The Smiths, Prefab Sprout etc... and none of it is
original. The only reason it is getting reviewed, is eventually the music
does tip it's toes into the melancholic World inhabited by the likes of
Katatonia. And when it does, although it does retain a certainly poppy
element, it does make for good listening. But fighting your way through so
much shit just to enjoy a couple of songs is veryhard work. The only song
I'd actually recommend is the finale "Stalingrad Theme" which is a damn fine
maelstrom of metallic riffs and furious double bass drumming. And of
course, lashings of unhappiness.
The two styles the band play are not connected at all and I fear will leave
them appealing to neither sets of fans. My guess is that Klimt 1918 have
attempted to create a masterpiece inspired by the artist they've named
themselves after. Gustav Klimt died in 1918, I suggest that this
incarnation of his name die in 2003.
