Klimt 1918 - 20/10/2005
Rome, Zoobar
taken from Babylon Magazine - by Tiziana Palmieri
Arms of time seem opening with pleasure, giving a warm welcome, to the first winter cold. After six months from the release of their second and last cd, the 'Dopoguerra Tour' continues, stopping in the capital this time, Klimt 1918's home town. The chosen location is the Zoobar, a very rock'n'roll club, a very big slovenly of Rome. Date granted very friendly, even seen the entrance of only 4 Euro, that's nothing if you consider the value and the name of the band. We, as paying audience, can't therefore be happy about this. There's who goes around at the bar counters, who stops for buying some merchandising, who quietly sits at the tables, but on the notes of "They were wed by the sea" - opening track of the new cd - all run to take seat in the front rows without exception. Finally after many listenings, having almost finished their cds, I can catch alive at closed distance one of the current Italian revelations. Melodies dreamy glide with "Snow of '85", after that a plunge in the past - more present than past actually - with "Parade of adolescence". Back to "Dopoguerra" with "Rachel", "Nightdriver", "Because of you, tonight" and the title-track. Here are then alternated, in a muddling and entertaining game of the Romans, the stupend - in my opinion - "Sleepwalk in Rome" and "That girl", but who knows if the people present at the show, numerous of course, but unfortunately without taking so much part, would've realized it the same. Let's give the blame to the vibe, so intense that everyone was plunged into the emotional beauty of their music. The end of the gig's up to a cover which follows "Last Christmas" of the Wham, a song performed live for the very first time, contained in the second cd of the luxuary edition of "Dopoguerra", and a new song in preview given to the Roman's audience by Klimt 1918. It'll have to be of course admitted that tonight there have been some technical problems, especially regarding the vocals, mainly in the first part of the performance, but it's even true that this band is able to give moments of emotions, thanks to their music so disenchanted, bittersweet, decadent, dreamy, cool, immediate, plain, pure... And this is what counts. I'd gather all this in one only word, referring to the own sensation of love itself, whereas the loving subject is captured and charmed by the image of the beloved object: the extasy...
