Everything
started in spring 2001, when I listened to Klimt 1918 for the first time, an
absolute new name to me at those times, as the track "Schmerzwerk
1976" was included in an old Cd-compilation enclosed to the italian music
mag. Psycho!.
Reading the short lines which accompanied the track above-mentioned, I learnt that
it was the band formed by brothers Marco & Paolo Soellner, already known in the
Italian undeground metal scene, for having played in Another Day. Infact, I had
always been wondering where had this band got to, even because it would've had
to publish its own debut Mini-Cd some years before! In spite of all the
flyers which however had been spread in that period, I didn't hear anything more about the
release of such material and so, with the passing of time, I must admit that I
lost sight of them.
However, without hesitating, I prepared myself for listening to the compilation
aforesaid and, once arrived the turn of the song said above, I could literally hardly believe what my ears were having the
sublime pleasure of
hearing through: one of the most beautiful and dreamy clean voices that I had
ever heard in my life (and which terribly reminded me of Vincent Cavanagh from
Anathema), distorted guitars, dissonances, a precise, technical drumming of such
a
heavyness and intensity. In a few words, a grand musical proposal that in my
opinion, of course reminded me of (old) Anathema themselves, as well as
certain things of Novembre, but that with its class and elegance immediately
won my heart. I just felt like I had been waiting such a band since ever, a band
that finally played the kind of music I longed for. So I ordered
immediately its Promo-Cd 2000 (which in that period was exclusively reserved
to the record-labels, music magz and other persons in charge and that therefore
was warmly advised me against copying it to half world... and how it was
difficult depriving some friends about the listening of such a jewel! - while
instead now can be easily ordered through the
official website of
the band) and since
then, although nowadays have passed about three years and I costantly found the
same songs ever in my hand, the enthusiam has always gone growing, even in view
of the release of their so long-waited full-lenght debut album "Undressed
Momento", released in the first decade of May 2003.
Right here you can find the comment to the track enclosed to the Cd-Compilation
mentioned in the beginning, as well as the review of the Promo itself, rightly
voted as 'Demo of the Month' on the same issue:
