Taking the best elements of Gothic Metal and 80's Darkwave, My Kingdom
Music's latest band Klimt 1918 unleash "Undressed Momento" upon the Gothic
Metal fanbase. This album is full of moments which evoke memories of later
day Anathema and Katatonia and should appeal straight away to fans of
those bands. With surprisingly upbeat sections contrasting against their
fantastic blend of bleak riffing, this album has dynamics which
automatically puts them ahead of most of their peers musically. More
importantly than this is that with such fragile vocals and good use of melodic clean guitars they manage to pull this off very convincingly.
"Parade of Adolescence" is a fantastic track which has the feel of a
despairing struggle as it plods on slowly. There is a dreamy atmosphere
about this as if it could be easily blown away and the vocals capture
perfectly the essence of hope in such a bleak setting. So sad yet so proud
this track has many twists and turns of simple yet catchy melodies in its
most nostalgic sounding moments. Following this "We don't need no music" has a beautiful riff - after the strange intro - which overlays an
excellent simple drum beat. After this the musical section is a little
dissappointing yet the Italian (I think) vocals are so beautiful in their
delivery that it makes up for this, and even when the English returns they
don't loose much of their passion. This is one of the weaker tracks I feel
but it is still good nonetheless. "Undressed Momento" with its whisperlike
vocal
delivery is another of the better tracks on the album as well as the more
powerful closing track "Stalingrad Theme" but overall all of the tracks
should really be listened to together as they completing each other in
various ways as each adds its own distinct colour to the fantastic
metaphorical painting. If you are a fan of later day Anathema or Gothic
Metal in general then I urge you to do yourself a favour and pick this up
as it really is beautiful and you will truly get enjoyment from it.
