::: 16/01/20110 :::
Happy 2011 to you all!!! As Marco told me some months ago, the blog of the band
finally lives again! The old 'Secession Spirits', that was born before the release of the
second album ''Dopoguerra'' and abandoned to its destiny right after the arrival
of the 'new' guitarist Francesco Conte, revives under the new name of
'A day in the life of
Klimt1918' (sounds like a call to their past as
Another Day - and is written even in English this
time!): there is already some posts about the new songs and a couple
of top-lists drawn up by Marco and Francesco, about their fave musical
listenings of the last year just passed. To tell you the truth, I don't like end year's
top-lists so much, but looking through Marco's one, it was a pleasure reading
that is fave album of 2010 (and at # 6 for Francesco) is even the one I've been playing all the times in
this last one month and half
- and namely
The National,
''High violet'' (and I've just started also discovering some of their old and as much
as valid records, especially the previous one,
''Boxer'' of 2007, thought this act wasn't absolutely less interesting on another couple of releases,
such as ''Sad songs for dirty lovers'' and ''Alligator''!), whom I had
also told you about in my last post
of end december, among other things. Therefore let's hope they'll tell us a lil'
bit more about them from now onwards on the pages of this blog...

::: 31/12/2010 :::
And so even this 2010 comes to an end. Sometimes I
feel kind of strange when I think about 10 years have already passed together with
the music of our Klimt1918 adored, to be exact since the release of their absolutely must-have promo-cd
''Secession makes post-modern music'' and
since I listened for the first time to the song
''Schmerzwerk 1976'' - included in the compilation
Psychosonic!, attached to
the same music mag of those good times past... - who literally drove me crazy
,
ha, ha, ha! Well, who knows, perhaps in 2011 the band will
celebrate its 10th anniversary with something 'really special' for us fans... If I were you, despite my
spare time is always less, I'd
come 'round here from time to time... I only regret that since I started with this fansite, I have never had the
time/way to rewrite it from the beginning, reset the pages, correct mistakes
here and there (guess even the Guestbook doesn't work either... so feel free to
contact by e-mail), have
never made a Forum - that many of you asked me and even personally
offered to create and so on... forgive me! - or simply never followed it
properly, but over the years it has become impossible to conciliate updates with the
daily commitments, work and so on. Anyway, it's always nice reading from several
parts that, in spite of my mess, you still like to follow me and however appreciate
the same a simple and readable site like mine. Sometimes I truly feel like
stopping all this, but then I get messages as the following - by Marco Soellner
himself
- and so I still find it a bit of inspiration to keep on writing
or looking for some news...
| |
| Dear
Mery, |
|
|
You
gotta know that I check your site every week
and that it represents for us a constant point of reference. The fact you've
not been hearing from us for a long time, if we don't write to each other,
not to be 'phisically' there, doesn't mean we don't appreciate
your work. Don't ever forget it. Paolo and I always follow what you do for
Klimt1918 and often emphasize the extraordinary devotion shown by you in
these last ten years |
|
|
 Well, if I think
you wrote to me ten years ago for the first time, I shiver, because it
means that somehow you, Paolo and me, see things exactly in the
same way:
stubborn, persevering, dreamers. For this reason, I can feel a
great sense of brotherhood towards you. It's like you also took
part to this
adventure, Mery.
It began many years ago on the quiet, putting so much sweat, so much passion
in it. We continue to
live today, with a few more wrinkles on the face, with many
problems to solve, but after all with the same wish to do. The
same need to call ourselves into question. |
| |
|
 I
have no idea how long the band and will go on. It's old and creaky.
Every now and then loses a
few pieces on the
way but still goes on. Without traveling at high speeds. It rather grumbles on a dirt
road.
But it is such a charming crossing, full of surprises all the times. |
And these are satisfactions... obviously hoping that the
band will continue to go on for still a long time!
Comin' back to the band however, the last time I was
'round here, I told you about the cancellation of the performance at the 2010 Festival
Autunnonero, where
Klimt1918 should have played a new track. Well, after receiving some information from Marco
directly, and even after
having a look
on the festival site in question, I wanted to give you some more news
about their nonpresentation of this song. During the first performance
of ours at the edition 2008 of the festival in Triora, the
band made friendship with the brothers Alessandro
and Andrea Scibilia,
organizers of the event, as well as respectively writer and artist of
the publishing house Sergio Bonelli - the same as
the comic 'Dylan Dog'. Thus was born the idea to compose the music for a special
book dedicated to 'Dampyr'
- titled ''Lucrezia'', set in the same place of the show,
Dolceacqua - or rather creating a
song from which the staff would have realized nothing less than a
comic, clearly inspired to the new song of the band. So ''Nostalghia''
took form, a song that afterwards would've had to be also included in a sort of
special publication (comic and cd), sold and distributed through
the label Prophecy
Productions. But then, because of the inevitable
bureaucratic and discographic Italian troubles, all came to nothing.
They could have at least performed the new song during the gig in Dolceacqua
where, at the same time, the pages of the comic released by Bonelli would've had
to be showed on the ancient buildings of the beautiful location but then
unfortunately, with the cancellation of this Halloween's gig, even
this good chance for the project fell through :/ Let's just hope to have the opportunity to hear
this unreleased track soon.
Enough
of my chit chat so I wanted to conclude just mentioning you a couple of
records released in 2010 and currently my faves, namely the 2° album of the
Finnish Magenta Skycode, ''Relief''
who, in my opinion, perform the lesson taught by The Cure in such an original way (I
also talked
about
their
debut album ''IIIII'' towards the end of 2007) and the last
album of the American
The National,
''High Violet'' that, as to grace, reminded me of the immense ''Butterflies'' by
the Swedish Diabolique (and I want to thank and say hello to Marco from
Demetra Sine Die who sent me this last one - so I can even promote
a lil' his band, as is truly
worth listening to!) and tellin' you that only 3 weeks ago I became aunt of a
very nice nephew - Giovanni (for those who hadn't known yet) - but
especially for wishing you all out there a great 2011!

::: 30/10/2010 :::
Unfortunately Klimt1918 had to cancel their performance of tonight at the
Halloween Gothic Fest. by
Autunnonero, because Marco got such a bad flu :/ ... luckily, after
having a look at the trains to reach the place - several changes, long waits, as
well as the last leg of the journey by bus, for reaching the destination only in
the late evening - I immediately gave up my plans to spend the week-end in
Dolceacqua! What a pity for the cancelled gig, even because the band would've
liked to also perform a new song, accompanied by special projections, though I
don't think I can tell you more for the time being, sorry!
Some nice live pictures of the band in occasion of the 2nd day at the
Days Shocking
Ground Fest., taken by Caroline Traitler/Photopit.com
(and you should also have a look at that couple of pictures she took during the
gig in Wien, on her pages of
deviantart):
the guy who replaced Davide at bass during these last European dates, because of
his work commitments, is Massimo Corona
(formerly Growing Concern and Volume, at the moment playing in
Another Circus).

Some cool live pictures of Klimt1918 by Daniela
Vorndran, as well a
short by nice report
written in English by Sebastian Huhn about their appearance of saturday, the 4th at
Nocturnal Culture Night V,
respectively taken from
Black Cat Net
(just look for the section 'Festivals and concerts') and
Reflections of
darkness. And there also are some pictures by Caroline Traitler, taken from
Photopit.com from their gig in Wien of the past friday, the 11th. Just don't
ask him who's the new guy at bass, 'coz I have no idea and it seems the boys have been too busy in these last couple of years or so to take the
trouble to keep me informed about their activity, every now and then...
::: 05/09/2010 :::
I've not been hangin' around here since such a
long time, that I have no idea how to start again right now... Actually I think
that my 2010 has begun and is gonna already end a lil' bit too quick
and spare time or just simply inspiration for writing begins lacking, though I'd
have a lot of material to add of course...
 Personal
considerations apart and coming back to ours, if everything has gone smoothly as per program,
exactly in the past couple of days or so, Klimt1918 held
some live gig in Germany. It should've been particularly interesting their
performance at the 5° edition of the
Nocturnal
Culture Night
in Leipzig,
a three days
festival - they should've played in the early afternoon of Saturday, the 4th -
with bands such as Leather Strip, In the nursery, Suicide Commando and Spetsnaz,
that have nothing to do with the proposal of ours, but the bill of the fest was full of so many different acts, something like that of the
M'Era Luna,
where even ours took part in
2005 and in
2008. Other two live dates, between
Austria and Hungary, are scheduled for the next week-end, exactly on Friday, the
10th in Wien, at the
Escape
Metalcorner, and Saturday, the 11th in Budapest, location to
be still announced. As I write all the times, if there
was anyone who had attended the live
shows in Germany or should attend the other
two in the next week-end, I'm here just awaiting your comments, photos or eventual live clips.
As to October, should be instead confirmed a couple of Italian live dates, one
on
Sunday, the 3rd, in occasion of the 2nd day of the
Days Shocking
Ground Fest. - sorry, but I have no information about this
festival; guess it's at the first edition and
from the
flyer is clear that
on Saturday, the 2nd, will mainly perform metal and more extreme Italian bands (such
as
Dark Lunacy
and
Necrodeath, among the
others),
while on Sunday there is surely much more alternative stuff
(La Menade)
- as well as their second appereance at the Halloween Gothic Fest. by
Autunnonero (International
Festival of Folklore and Horror Culture), on Saturday, the 30th, that this year will be held in Dolceacqua (Imperia),
where Klimt1918 had already performed for
Halloween 2008. I'd really like
attending this last fest and even spending a whole week-end around there, for it
must truly be such a charming location, but I think that between the hours that
would take me to go there by car and all the other gigs I've already decided to
attend from here to the end of 2010, will not permit me to go.

::: 30/04/2010 :::
After a couple of weeks from the last live date of Klimt1918 held at the Piper Club
of the capital,
in occasion of the festival 'Rome Undersound', unfortunately I haven't found
anything yet about that night, any live report or short comment, neither live clips. Perhaps I didn't check
carefully, but actually I didn't
neither have enough spare time to do it. But I
had quite enough time for listening to all the other bands from the bill of the
festival and I'd like to mention a couple of them in particular even here, and
namely
Confield
(dark/new wave sonorities that in some passages also reminded me of some things
from which even our Klimt1918 adored have clearly drawn inspiration for all
their records, though the voice is definitely more dark-rock) and Qali
(with some killer female vocals, combined with male ones, for a sensational and
dancing mix);
some steps below the remaining couple of bands,
Cat Claws
(female vocals even here, but musically more indie/noise)
and San La
Muerte, still very young and unrefined, in my opinion. Just in case you'd also like give 'em
a listening...
By the way, there are some news the same, since about one week before this last live
date, Marco and Francesco have been interviewed for a radio from Rome -
Radio Cittā Futura
- and from this chat we could've finally known something about the next
studio album of Klimt1918: it seems that the new songs are taking shape. Marco has defined 'em the progressive evolution of what has been produced in the past
years, adding that the band is exploring further on those soft and ambient vibes of the
last ''Just in
case we'll never meet again'' and that probably we're gonna experiencing another
change of sound, hoping they'll be able to enter the studio within summertime
and releasing the new album within the end of this year as well (thanks Nightdriver
for this great news!).
::: 14/03/2010 :::
And finally we've also found a live clip taken
from the gig that Klimt1918 held at the end of january at
Salamandra1
in Barcelona
(thanx Nightdriver!),
for
''Passive'',
by Haterwolf, song that has been clearly rearranged if compared to the times of
the debut promo dated 2000, ''Secession makes post-modern music'',
a thing that none attending their concerts had ever made notice, though is a
song they've already started proposing live for about one year and half by now.
It's a just pity that the audio is very bad.
As to the fact that lately the band is also proposing the track ''Dopoguerra''
alive, I consider it a kind of tribute to the their sensational 2nd album
released exactly 5 years ago. In fact the band is gonna play once more at Piper Club
in Rome
(on Thursday, 22/04/2010),
where they recently played supporting White Lies,
in occasion of the festival 'Rome Undersound',
and even this new live date makes me think very much to a 'celebration' of the
time passed from the release of ''Dopoguerra''. It's just a pity I won't be
able to attend their performance neither this time.

Let's close the month with some nice live clips of
Klimt1918 in occasion of their last gigs, at
Ritmo y compās
in Madrid, with three clips by TheVane74, respectively of
''Skygazer'',
''Suspense
music'' and
''They were wed by the sea'',
and another one by SurdicForest, of
''True love is the oldest fear''.
And there is also the clip by gattoh of
''Snow of '85'', taken from the supporting date to White Lies,
held at Piper Club
in Rome the past week! I also found a couple of live reports in Italian taken
from Nerds Attack! and
Il Cibicida talkin' about Klimt1918 who opened for
the English act,
one saying that they mainly performed songs taken from the last album, but even
''Passive'' taken from the debut promo and the other one simply saying that the
band was a very pleasant surprise.
::: 13/02/2010
:::
Such a great live news, for all those lucky ones
who can be there
(the show is sold out!!!), and for the band
especially: Klimt1918 will open the show of the English act
White Lies, who's gonna
play in Rome, at Piper Club,
next Thursday, the 18th of february!!!
I just wanted to also exactly report the set-list of the band during the
supporting date for
Dredg in Rome, the
past october 2009, and I thank Marco
Z1918 for informing me (better late than
never :P ): ''Passive'', ''Just in case we'll never meet again'',
''Skygazer'', ''Ghost of a tape listener'', ''Suspense music''
e ''Dopoguerra''.
::: 07/02/2010
:::
Some live pictures found on flickr about the
show of Klimt1918 held at
Ritmo y compās,
in Madrid, the past 23rd of january: those by
Isaac Rojo
(just three), by
scumfrog
(there are many here, as well as a slideshow and probably the most beautiful)
and by
ballener0
(even here there are several photos and a couple very nice and there is also the
set-list: ''The breathtaking days'',
''Passive'' - damned! :P - ''Skygazer'', ''Ghost of a tape listener'',
''True love is the oldest fear'', ''Just in case we'll never meet again''
- I can't believe!, ''Because of you tonight'', ''Suspense
music'', ''Parade of adolescence'', ''The Graduate'' - with a dedication in
Spanish! - ''Dopoguerra'' - that would've had to be preeceded by ''Nightdriver'',
but cancelled on the set-list - and for the encore ''Snow of '85''
and ''They were wed by the sea''). So this time, if they've performed
exactly the tracks mentioned on the set-list, they've really turned out in
playing at least a couple of songs more and different than usual!!!

A huge happy 2010 to everybody!!! Yeah, I know I'm
quite late, but hope is alright the same! I'm so sorry I haven't been 'round
here so much during the last months of 2009, but it was such a stressful working
year - but luckily even full of many gigs, and therefore I've definitely prefered
relaxing/relieving myself going to see some beautiful bands live, instead of
sitting even during the week-end at a desk, he, he, he! And the intention for
this new year is exactly the same, ha, ha, ha!!! Concerts is the reason why I'm
here, since Klimt1918 is gonna play a couple of live dates neverthless in Spain
during next week:
... just in case some Italian was there
in those days for vacation, or reasons of study, work and so on, but
especially for the Spanish fans whom I hope will attend the events and will tell
me something to write in these pages and share with all the others!!! Among
other things, it's not
The Cannibal Queen as wrongly mentioned on the flyer which is gonna support
our Klimt1918 adored, but rather
Le Grant in
Barcelona, with very dark-wave and dancing vibes - in fact they remind me of my
fellow citizens NeoN -
and Quaoar - maybe
less mature, but however interesting. Guess this time the good Davide will
play bass on stage: I've not been hearing the band for months by now, but
right in these last couple of days I've exchanged some sms with Paolo from
Kardia - who replaced Davide at bass a few times in 2009 - who
didn't absolutely mention he's gonna play once again with the band. Well then,
everything is possible...
